  • Big lunch in Evington

    Around a hundred people turned out for a fun-filled community picnic of at the first ‘Big Lunch’ at Evington Park. The family-friendly event was run by volunteer Betty Hunter and included children’s entertainment, music and karaoke, Saturday June 21, from 12pm -2pm at Evington Park House. Visitors were encouraged to bring a packed lunch but food was available through the community lunch which takes place every Saturday in the park. The children’s entertainment included a clown entertainer who was doing balloon modelling, a sports coach playing sport games with the kids and a local author putting her books on display.     It all started with an idea as many projects do, to restore the Evington War Memorial site and include a local social historical project themed on WW1 to commemorate the fallen during this centenary year, lest we forget. Parks Services are leading the restoration and improvements to the site and the Friends of Evington are leading the social element of the project. We are both linking arms to bring together ideas, support each other and find resources to bring the project to fruition.     Campaign for School Gardening

    This campaign is in its early stages in Evington.  Nationally, the Royal Horticultural Society is encouraging and supporting all schools to develop and actively use a school garden.  They provide start-up kits and registration schemes  (  Research shows that school gardening boosts child development, teaches life skills and make children healthier and happier.
