ROUNDHILL TENNIS CLUB

Roundhill Tennis Club in Homeway Road, continues to provide playing and coaching opportunities for many adults and juniors from Evington and the surrounding areas. The Club has been on this site since 1932, having originally been founded somewhere on Evington Drive in 1928. Does any reader know where this exact site was?

Senior and junior teams, at several age groups, play in many competitions within the County. The Ladies team also play in the Midland Division of the Aegon National League, which includes the likes of Edgbaston Priory and Bridgnorth as well local teams such as Leicestershire LTC and Loughborough University.

Between matches there are many chances for social play with groups meeting on weekday afternoons, evening play and at weekends. These sessions allow everyone to mix in and play with members of a wide range of ability and age. Our oldest member in the groups, an Evington resident, is 83 and he plays at least twice a week.

There are coaching squads for children from around 4/5 through to “rusty/ beginner” adults. Most of the junior sessions are on Monday evenings and Saturday mornings. The “rusty” adults meet late on Saturday mornings. There is a well supported Coffee Morning group on Thursdays which is open to non members with play, coaching, good coffee and home made cakes.

The Club is constantly looking to upgrade the facilities with the courts due for a wash and brush up and re-painting this spring. This follows the refurbishment of the changing rooms last year.

There will be an OPEN DAY at the Club on Saturday April 24 th from 10am for children and adults. Why not drop in and have a go on court, find out about the Club and enjoy our hospitality?.

All are welcome to come down and have a go or contact the Secretary Jon Hall for more details (0116 2109348). After all the Davis Cup team needs some new blood! Don't wait until Wimbledon, start playing now!
