VICTIMS OF THEIR OWN SUCCESS The Friday morning card making group has been meeting at Wycliffe United Church Hall Rooms . Beverley McCarron started the class in 2006. Beverley had studied calligraphy, botanical drawing/painting and card making at Knuston College in Northamptonshire. It didn't take her long to attract local residents to the club - just a small advert in the Cog Shop window.
Sadly Beverley died in October 2006 and the club was leaderless; but Beverley's club was too good to fold. Sadie and Hilary decided that they could keep it going with a committee and shared leadership. About six or seven of the members take it in turn to demonstrate aspects of card making, then the members either have a go at the demonstration card or do their own thing. Last year over a hundred cards were sold in the Cancer Research shop for that charity and the group donated £125 to Loros. They also supported the local Cog Shop. This group has been unable to advertise since 2006 because there are no more places, and the waiting list doesn't move very quickly. Anyone else interested in a card making club might need to start their own! Helen Pettman Editor's note: A problem with the ceiling leaking at the Cog Shop has meant that all their existing stock was spoiled. This shop is now empty and advertised as ‘to let'. The Cog Shop has been in the Village for over ten years and was well liked by local people. Sadly, there are now three empty shops in the Village. |
