ST. JOSEPH'S CHURCH, UPPINGHAM ROAD

Pictured are well known parishioners, Yvonne & Graeme Peene, on their ruby wedding day earlier this year. They were married at St Joseph's in the original building which is now our Pastoral Centre. Graeme was responsible for the restoration and conversion of the stable block into our splendid Watermead Centre Shop and Yvonne is the organiser of our Charity Support Group, Charity Shop and catering team.

On Sunday 20th June we welcomed back the 22-strong Leicester Zimbabwean Community choir and musicians who first visited us in July 2007 when they came to support the late Father David Everitt of Houghton on the Hill as he set out for Zimbabwe to minister to the Mother of Peace Community in their caring for young AIDS orphans. Our children's liturgy group has deep affection for Father David, who died on Easter Sunday this year at the age of 63. The children are very interested in the orphans and plans are in hand to organise pen friends. After Mass there were games in the garden for the children and refreshments were provided by the Zimbabweans. The day was a huge success and a raffle and donations raised around £300 for the Community - www.motherofpeace.co.uk

The 26th June was another successful day when our annual Garden Party for the Let the Children Live! Charity raised approximately £600 which has been despatched immediately to help the street children in Colombia.
