BUS SERVICES

Dear Editor,

Your correspondent in the June/July 2010 issue is right to be happy with the replacement bus shelter at Coplow Avenue. However, whilst she is extolling the merits of the “lovely little red bus” number 81, let us not forget that this is only a part day service. It only operates between 0650 and 1825 Monday to Saturday. There is no evening, Sunday or Bank Holiday service and no consideration is given to anyone who has to get to or from work or wishes to socialise outside of these times.

Since bus services outside London were deregulated in 1984, the priorities of the bus companies are profit and paying dividends to their shareholders. The sooner we have properly regulated services the better. This is what councillors should be pressing for.
