HERITAGE OPEN DAYS 9-12 SEPTEMBER 2010

From Thursday 9th - Sunday 12th September over 4,000 interesting buildings across England will throw open their doors for free as part of the country's annual celebration of local architecture, history and culture.

Sponsored by English Heritage, it gives people a chance to see inside amazing properties of every style, period and function for free. Across the country they include medieval cottages, fabulous temples, castles, Victorian factories and 21st century eco-homes.

There are about 200 properties in the Leicester area to choose from. Last year I visited the Synagogue and the Euston Street Museum. There were guided tours of Leicester Castle, the Town Hall and New Walk. The Jain Temple on Oxford Street is a spectacular vision of white marble and intricate carvings - the largest of its kind outside the Indian sub-continent.
