Welcome to the Evington Echo

When 65 people descended on Evington Youth Club on Wednesday 7th July at 9.00am, then work began. This all came about because the Global Research and Development Centre for Pepsico, which is based at Beaumont Leys in Leicester, voted for Leicester Charity Link and Leicester Charity Link's board chose the Youth Club for a make-over.

At the end of the day the Club had a new kitchen, new furnishings in the quiet room and had been painted throughout . The grounds had been tidied. Pepsico donated some new nets and mats as well.

All this took a bit of organising – cupboards, skips, portaloos, painting materials, refreshments, etc. all needed ordering and tasks allocating. Mrs. Pauline O'Brien, Chair of the Management Committee said “There are so many people to thank I don't know where to start. Pepsico people have been wonderful but I particularly wish to thank the local groups – the Goodwood and Evington Tenants' and Residents' Association and the Evington Echo for their financial support when things were tough. The City Council have also supported the Club financially and Evington Park Services have helped a lot. This upgrading of our club will lift the youths' perception and make a huge difference.
