EVINGTON FLOWER CLUB

A very interesting and colourful demonstration was held at the Flower Club meeting in October, living up to the title ‘Colours at my fingertips', presented by Pat Billings. It was an excellent display of flowers and design.

As you can see from the photograph, this particular arrangement was quite stunning. A curvy wooden base was decorated with Ruscus for outline and Rhamnus and Palm leaves for texture, plus Fatsia and Ivy anchored in oasis on top and finished with Stargazer Lilies and pink Gerberas, Roses and Carnations.

Pat told us she gets to the market at 5.30am to get fresh flowers and ensure finding the colours she requires.

Among the other six arrangements, one of the designs was an almost all green one set in a low container using two tall stems of growing bamboo in the centre and surrounded by Palm leaves and Fatsia leaves, Fern and Ivy flowers, with green curly Chrysanthemums and pistachio coloured Kermits (like small pom-poms). Also included were several beads of cream carnations and two sprays of tiny orchids (Dendrobiums).

The whole demonstration was superb and stimulating, using various containers, flowers and foliage.

The next meeting will be the last of the year, ending with Christmas arrangements and tea with mince pies, plus a bring and buy stall. We have had a wonderful year of fabulous demonstrations and good company. Come and join us next year; the time and place will be found in our terrific, colourful and informative Evington Echo.
