‘LEICESTER' BY DOUGLAS SMITH

Continued from the front page

Evington's author and artist, Douglas Smith, has launched his new book, ‘ Leicester'. This lovely book contains 124 paintings and sketches of buildings, gardens and townscape from Roman times to the present day.

“The steady growth of Leicester”, writes Douglas, “has left no grand plan or dominant architectural style but pockets of exceptional visual quality. The new buildings at Highcross and Orton Square, with the new theatre ‘Curve' have dramatically increased the scale of the city and added a quality of architecture that is of national, possibly international importance.”

Richard Attenborough wrote, “Douglas Smith has captured a love of Leicester which reflects its historic past, rejoices in the diversity of its present, and heralds its optimism for the future.”

All profits from the sale of this exceptionally high quality book are being donated to the Hope Foundation for Cancer Research in Leicester and Rutland, created in memory of friend, Allison Wilson.
