OBITUARY FOR CAROLINE MIODRAG

Caroline Miodrag died on 9 September, at the untimely age of 53, after a long battle with cancer. The fortitude, lack of self regard, and humour with which she dealt with her illness was typical of her approach to life.
Born in Nottingham in 1956, it was while she was a student nurse at Chapel Allerton Hospital in Leeds that she met newly qualified doctor Alex. This led on to an exceedingly happy marriage and the birth of three much-loved sons, David, Tom and Daniel. Caroline's strength and resolve proved itself in 1989 when, while she was pregnant with Daniel, both David and Tom were each desperately ill – in different hospitals. All surviving the ordeal, her family remained central to Caroline's life, and she was always exceedingly proud of all her sons. The family had moved to Leicester in 1983 and once Daniel started school Caroline began work as a classroom assistant at Linden Primary School. She took a personal interest in everyone, never too busy for a kind word or thoughtful action. Always resourceful, she was involved in everything, from helping backstage during children's drama presentations (always a string of safety pins to hand), to conjuring up refreshments at innumerable fund-raising events. Additional part-time work at Browsers' bookshop allowed her to be surrounded by another love – books – and she continued working here even as her illness forced her to curtail other activities.
Always cheerful, always thinking of others, Caroline would never pass a beggar, busker or charity collector without giving generously; she gave the bulk of an inheritance to the Tsunami appeal; and her concern for others led her at various times to involvement with Oxfam, Save the Children and CND, as well as being a tireless fund-raiser for Linden Primary School and a passionate promoter of music over many years as Chair of Friends of Judgemeadow Music.
Though she suffered greatly during her four year fight against cancer, she leaves abiding memories of laughter, a love of life and a determination to see the best in all things. She will be sorely missed.

Julia Hughes, with thanks to the Miodrag family
