CROWN HILLS ART EXHIBITION 2009

Crown Hills Art Exhibition 2009 was opened by Simon Lake, Senior Curator, Fine Art, at New Walk Museum. He spoke of the society's visit to the Archives where works of art not normally on display were seen, such as a portrait of international rugby player Martin Johnson. The paintings he liked in this exhibition were Anne Saxton's Muddy Creek, Shirley Easton's Portuguese Boats and Irene Peutrill's Lemon Tree. He particularly liked Joyce Watson's Wise Old Owl which he said had similarities with the German Impressionists Emil Nolde and Karl Schmidt-Rotluff. These are featured in the museum's current exhibition, Journey into Darkness, which runs until 28th February.

The society has close links with the school and this year awarded prizes to the best GCSE students Amerpreet Kaur and Pritesh Chauhan.

It was a good exhibition but there were comments that better lighting would have helped.
