EVINGTON GARDEN CLUB

Evington Garden Club's winter programme has included an excellent talk on Winter Gardens by Jeff Gates who used examples from Cambridge Botanic Gardens and Anglesey Abbey to show how landscaping can make the most of the winter sun which is low in the sky. There were tips on pruning carefully; dogwood for example is attractive if alternate stems are left with the leaves on.

The AGM was well attended, Terry Cann and the committee were thanked for their hard work and one new member was elected.

The season was rounded off with a sumptuous Christmas buffet by Truly Scrumptious. The 2010 programme is available and a trip to John Massey's garden, which was enjoyed by members in a different season, has been planned for March.

The topics for the 2010 programme are Hardy Fuchsias, Jersey Royal (gardens not potatoes), A Riot of Colour, Streptocarpus, Drought Gardening, Discovering Day Lilies, The Leicester and Rutland Gardens Trust, Puddle Paddock, RSPB Action for Bird, AGM with music and slides, ‘What a Wonderful World', and Christmas Buffet. The meetings are held from 7.15pm until 9.00pm on the third Tuesday of the month in the Village Hall. New members and visitors are welcome.
