ST JOSEPH'S CHURCH, UPPINGHAM ROAD
Romance has blossomed at St Joseph's and the New Year started with the surprise announcement of the engagement to be married of two well known parishioners, Theresa Keller and Bob Cave, who met through their church work. Bob runs the coffee shop and Theresa is the Leicester Treasurer of the Charity ‘Let the Children Live!' and bookings secretary of the parish hall. St Joseph's has been fortunate to receive a very generous offer to improve the front of the church and pathway that links the church to the car park. The works consisted of levelling the grassed area and then block paving it in keeping with the church and existing paving. There has also been the donation of a new Notice Board and, despite the bad weather, the work was completed just before Christmas. We finished 2009 with a family fun night which raised £303 for church funds and we also had a very successful concert with the Leicester Accordion Band and our soloist soprano, Rebecca, which raised £369 for the charity ‘Let the Children Live!' At the end of the year our Charity Support Group was able to report that since September they had raised £628 through various events for MacMillan Cancer Support. Gail Gray |
