CHRISTMAS DAY IN EVINGTON

Dear Editor,
I asked some Evington people what they did on Christmas Day. Here are some replies.
“I spent Christmas alone. My family did not ask me what I was doing. I understand that I am just one of over a quarter of a million over 75s who are on their own at Christmas.”
“I enjoyed a meal with my family and grandchild. I see Christmas Day as an opportunity to enjoy a mid winter celebration.”
“On Christmas Day, I look forward to the post Christmas sales, but there wasn’t much in the shops this year.”
“I like to go to the service at church on Christmas Day morning and then spend the rest of the time at home relaxing with my family”.
“I am glad when Christmas is over for another year, I seem to be tied into spending too much money and too much time shopping and cooking.”
“I opened my Christmas stocking at home and then took my presents to open at my grandparents’ house. The rest of the day was spent eating and watching television.”
“We can’t be bothered to prepare a Christmas meal, so we go to our local pub, then the whole day is spent talking and relaxing.”
