The Fete and Show committee are hard at work planning for their 10th event, which will take place on Saturday 11th August 2012 from 12 noon to 5pm on Evington Village Green. There is a vacancy on the committee for an organising job. Please contact John Sloan (Chair) for details. Tel: 241 2210.
Evington in Bloom is a campaign that many local groups are involved with and there are many horticultural projects going on. For more details see the articles on page 8.
Evington’s road safety campaign, which started again in 2010 with a horrific accident outside Linden Primary School, is gathering momentum. See articles on pages 2 and 8.
I was sad to learn that a community facility, the ‘Youth Centre’ on Church Road next to the Village Hall, is to be demolished and replaced with residential properties. The ‘Youth Centre’ was used by St. Denys Church many years ago, but more recently by Evington’s pre-school group. Some local residents are concerned about the new proposals because it could mean more cars pulling out into Church Road.
