EVINGTON EYECARE – THE FIRST 20 YEARS
Evington Eyecare is celebrating proudly serving the local community for 20 years. Riyaz Jasat has been the principal Optometrist and Director since it opened on Downing Drive on 27th January 1992. He has lived in Evington for 32 years and knows the community requirements well. In his free time he enjoys playing many sports, foreign travel and family life with his wife, three sons and one daughter.
When the practice first opened it ran with two part time staff. Today it is staffed by Riyaz, his fellow optometric colleague Mrs Shameen Gheewala and two full time staff members Toni Marston and Jodie McCarthy. Riyaz still finds it hard to believe that at the age of 47 he is the longest surviving proprietor on the parade.
The practice has grown from its humble origins of NHS and private eye examinations and contact lens fittings to provide a host of additional services, such as such as home visits throughout Leicestershire, laser eye surgery consultations, assessments and tinted lenses for dyslexia and Optomap retinal examinations (one of the very few providers within Leicester).
The role of the Optometrist has changed greatly since 1992. Advice is given with regard to dietary supplements for Macular Degeneration and a fast track cataract surgery referral service is provided. Continuing Professional Development ensures keeping up to date with current trends. Riyaz has attended the largest optical conference in the world in Atlanta, America on two occasions, is an active member of the Local Optometric Association and maintains close links with local GPs.
During the forthcoming months to help celebrate the 20 years in business there will be free refreshments and several offers will be running in practice, so do pop in for a no obligation visit and meet the friendly staff.
