REPORT ON GAMEL ROAD POLICING PRIORITIES
During the summer / autumn of 2011 the Gamel Road area of Evington was subject to a high intensity of anti social behaviour.
At the centre is a fast food outlet around which local young people convened in the evenings. There was a high quantity of litter, and intelligence suggested that those involved in serious acquisitive crime frequented the location. There were further intelligence reports of alcohol and drug abuse and acts of a sexual nature, some of these acts taking place in areas of public land between and around housing.
On patrolling the area local officers noted that: youths had a disproportionately high street presence, several Vulnerable Persons reside in the area, and reports were received of people who felt intimidated by the youths and their unlawful behaviour.
Following these reports the police increased their patrols and engaged with the: youths, residents, local businesses and our partner agencies. As a result: a report was made to environmental health to consider issues relating to the fast food outlet, the local housing office was consulted and additional fencing has been authorised by our councillors to protect the vulnerable. As a result of the policing initiatives and the support of our partner agencies the area has seen a significant reduction in anti social behaviour.
