MAYFLOWER METHODIST CHURCH, ETHEL ROAD
We enjoyed the Christmas season celebrations and the church was decorated with a Nativity scene on the communion table, and a large Christmas tree at the front of the church. The usual tree in the porch was illuminated every afternoon and evening to cheer passers-by and children returning home from school.
We have lost one of our members, Mrs. Agatha Horsford, who was well known in the district for her work in the Labour Party and in the trade union movement. A packed church at her funeral showed the appreciation for her life.
The season before Easter is known as Lent, and starts on Ash Wednesday, which falls on 22nd February this year. We invite all friends to an Ash Wednesday service to be held at 10.30am on that day.
In March we are privileged to have a visit from Mark Topping who has had several appearances as John Wesley on BBC Television, and who has been touring England, Wales and Ireland playing John Wesley in various productions. His current tour includes “IMPOSSIBLE GOD”, a one-man Passion Play, re-enacting the story of the Death and Resurrection of Jesus, and will be performed by MARK TOPPING at Mayflower Methodist Church, Ethel Road, LE5 5ND at 7pm on Saturday 17th March. (tickets £7.00, under 17 £5.00). Book the date now and don’t miss this moving performance. Tel: 2716638 for bookings and 2767686 for any queries.
