WHY HAS OUR BUS SHELTER GONE? I am writing to let you know that the Leicester City Council has removed the bus shelter at the top of Evington Lane hill, near the corner of Coplow Avenue. It is really ridiculous and shows a total lack of thought and consideration to the people who catch the 81 Centre bus there. To pull a perfectly adequate shelter down does not make any sense at all. We have had enough trouble over the years with getting a decent bus service, as it is. There are many elderly people who use this service. As the bus is so often not on time and only a half hourly service, many people were glad of the seat in the shelter. Above all, it provided protection from the elements at a spot which is one of the highest in Leicester. Now, if we have to wait a long time, we are going to get soaked and blown away by the winds coming from Bradgate Park. There is an old person's home opposite. The other day I saw an elderly lady sitting on the cover that protects the cable television optic fibres, hardly an ideal place to sit. I hope that Leicester City Council reconsiders this ridiculous situation and decides to put a shelter back. The shelter was far more benefit than a raised kerb. Why could they not have put both? Both are definitely needed. Wendy Polydorou |
