SUMMER HOLIDAYS

Those lovely long summer holidays are almost upon us. Don't worry mums! – there's loads to do. Here are a few ideas that involve exercise and being outside in the fresh air.

Right on the doorstep is Evington Park. Anyone for tennis? It's free. There's the brand new play area.

How about catch or football on the large grassy areas? Hide and seek – there are plenty of trees to hide behind. Get your roller skates on! Get on your bike! Use your imagination to have fun with your friends. In August three days of Summer Fun activities are planned for 11, 12, 13 August to include tennis coaching and mini Olympics. The coaches are qualified and it's free. Booking is essential by telephoning 273 3912.

Still in Evington there's lots going on at the Library including the Quest Seekers Summer Scheme telephone 273 9518; check out what's on at Evington Leisure Centre telephone 299 5575; and the Football Foundation at Judgemeadow School telephone 210 3153.

Why not explore Leicester's other parks? These wonderful green spaces with wildlife, trees, shrubs and flowers, sporting and play facilities are for everyone's enjoyment – young and old. Why not take a picnic?

There are two well equipped play areas and an adventure playground at Spinney Hill Park.

Bushey Brook flows through Humberstone Park, with its skate park, tennis courts and bowling green. And when you get thirsty or hungry, refreshments are available at the Humberstone Park Café. Near by is Monks Rest Gardens with play areas, tennis courts, a basketball court and two bowling greens.

Knighton Park has a 9 hole pitch-and-putt golf course and there are three orienteering courses and a tree trail, as well as an infant play area for children aged 2-6 years and a play area for children over 6 years.

Victoria Park has two well equipped play areas, a large pond and nature area, and Victoria Park Café for refreshments.
