MAYDAY DANCING IN EVINGTON Celebrating this Mayday festival with many and varied dances has now become an established feature in the calendar of events for Evington Park.
This year, the Lord Mayor of Leicester, Councillor Roger Blackmore, and the Lady Mayoress, attended. The Lord Mayor said, “This event is excellent. A traditional English festival has been greatly enhanced by contributions from your diverse community.” The programme included: Maypole dancing, hip hop, Bhangra, Morris dancing, a Michael Jackson tribute dance, Salsa, Scottish dancing, Dhol playing, Raas and circle dancing. This was performed by students from St. Paul's Catholic School, Judgemeadow Community College and Whitehall Primary School with the St. Philip's Interfaith Salsa group, the Shishukunj dancers, the DEA Dhol Enforcement Agency and Park and Green Space Services with the Friends of Evington Park and Village Green who organised the whole event.
