EVINGTON PARK BOWLING CLUB CHARITY GALA This year's chosen charity was ‘Hope Against Cancer'. On Sunday 6th September, over fifty members and supporters gathered at the club to have a sumptuous buffet tea, preceded by an 18 end competitive team game for which prizes were subsequently awarded. Proceeds from the event, and previous fund raising activities, raised a total of £553. The photograph shows the club President, Dr. John Watters, presenting a cheque to Professor Ian Lauder, representing the charity. Professor Lauder outlined the activities of the charity which operates from Leicester, covering Leicestershire and Rutland, and was founded in 2003. He mentioned, as an example, research into dietary links with cancer. ‘Hope against Cancer's work is carried out by researchers not relying on funding from the national cancer charities. Professor Lauder advised that one of the good indications, in the research against cancer, was the positive aspects of a ‘good cup of tea'! Peter Jackson |
