AN OUTSTANDING NEIGHBOURHOOD AWARD

Many congratulations to the Friends of Evington Park and Village Green who received a Certificate of Outstanding Achievement at the Neighbourhood Awards 2009 ceremony from East Midlands in Bloom.

Two projects were praised. The first involved the design, construction and planting of a large community flower bed on Evington Village Green and the second was the refurbishment of the Burnaby Gardens in Evington Park in which the Friends played a major role in partnership with Evington Park Services.

The Judge commented that people of all ages had been involved. He thought that if the Friends, or any other interested group, were able to extend their activities and influence into the area surrounding the Park and Green the impact on Evington would be significant and form the basis of a good entry in the Urban Neighbourhood competition.

The Britain in Bloom Neighbourhood Awards are open to any group eager to make a difference to their local environment. It doesn't matter if your group consists of a few neighbours keen to tackle local litter, or a larger action group determined to turn-around a problem ‘grot spot' or eyesore. You don't even need to know anything about gardening.

All Leicester city wards including Evington Ward are willing to give funding to groups putting in for a Neighbourhood Award of up to £500. The amount given by the ward will be matched by Park Services.
