ST JOSEPH'S CHURCH
The coffee shop is a popular meeting place for parishioners and friends after Mass on Sunday and Thursday mornings and also contains our Fair Trade Stall and library of religious books. At the end of August we welcomed many visitors from outside the parish to a successful Taize Evening of Music and Prayer. We were fortunate to have a delightful choir leader who soon had us all chanting in harmony, as St Augustine said, “Those who sing pray twice”. St Joseph's supports a Walsingham based registered charity called ‘Let the Children Live!' which rescues destitute street children in Colombia, South America. The Charity raises funds by printing high quality Christmas cards which are exported to us in bulk for packing into small units and distribution by mail order throughout the UK. Our team of volunteer packers operate on most Thursdays from September to Christmas working in the coffee shop from 10.30am – 12.00pm. It is rewarding work which is not arduous and there is always a cup of coffee and a good natter into the bargain. Any willing helpers would be most welcome. The Charity relies solely on the goodwill of people outside Colombia and the income from the Christmas cards is vital to its continued existence (find out more on www.LetTheChildrenLive.org). Packs of the cards are available in Leicestershire exclusively from the Watermead Shop, opening hours being Tue, Wed, Thur 10.30am – 3.30pm; Sat 5.00pm – 5.50pm; Sun 11.45am – 12.45pm. Entrance is via the Church car park. Gail Gray |
