Friends of Evington is the charity for the Evington Echo. The Evington Echo can keep you up to date with the charity’s news and local news in and around Evington. It is linked to the print version that is distributed bi-monthly to 5,900 households, with a pdf version on line at www.evingtonecho.co.uk.
Friends of Evington includes Evington in Bloom, Evington Bicycle Club, Evington History and Heritage Club, Evington House Yoga group and the Gujarati Social Club.
It aims to: (1) To promote for the benefit of the public, the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment in the Evington suburb of Leicester and the surrounding area. (2) To promote for the benefit of the inhabitants of Evington and the surrounding area the provision of facilities for recreation or other leisure time occupation of individuals who have need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disablement, financial hardship of social and economic circumstances or for the public at large in the interests of social welfare and with the object of improving the condition of life of the said inhabitant.
The campaign for a Neighbourhood Centre in Evington has taken many twists and turns. Our preferred venue is at Evington Park House. Nov. 2018, the Evington Park House is still not officially recognised as a Neighbourhood Centre but daytime groups have their own fob access to meet in this house. Evington in Bloom has a gardening club – the Burnaby Garden Club – that meets both in the park and house. Evington Bloom also has the lease on an allotment site for growing on plants and a cabin for refreshments and activities. Evington Bicycle Club meets in the park and has access to an outdoor shed for equipment. Evington History and Heritage Club meets at the Parish Centre. Evington House Yoga group meet at Mayflower Methodist Community rooms and the Gujarati Social Club meet in the Park grounds.
The enclosed chart, updated in November 2018, shows the various activities that take place and have taken place in connection with Friends of Evington.
