Evington in Bloom

Evington in Bloom is a team of local volunteers who are supported by the charity Friends of Evington and affiliated to East Midlands in Bloom and through them to the Royal Horticultural Society.

It aims to encourage pride in our area and keeping Evington looking clean and full of flowers.  To do this the Evington in Bloom team encourages people to get involved in their own streets or ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ groups and do something, however small, to support the idea.

Flowers help brighten our streets and make us feel good, but the group also take on responsibilities to work through schools so that children can learn about gardening, sustainable developments and care for the environment.

In Evington (2018)  there are eight ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ groups and many community groups that support the campaign.

Every year from 2012 to 2018 Evington in Bloom has welcomed judges from East Midlands in Bloom.   In 2016 and 2018 Evington in Bloom also welcomed judges from Britain in Bloom.  In 2018, Evington received a Silver Gilt award from East Midlands in Bloom and a Silver award from Britain in Bloom.  During the summer of 2018, Evington took part in filming for the second series of the Britain in Bloom documentaries.  This 29 minute presentation of Evington will be shown by the BBC in the Spring of 2019.

If you are interested in setting up an ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ group in your area, contact through this website.

Evington in Bloom is developing a community allotment and received Lottery funding through ‘Awards for All’ (2016/2017).  This has paid for a cabin on the allotments, refurbishment of the tool shed and gardening courses.
