WE'VE ALL GONE BANANAS!!!!!!

For Fairtrade that is! As part of Fairtrade Fortnight, Whitehall Primary School held a special “Go Bananas” assembly. Virtually everybody in the school – 500 people! – brought in a Fairtrade banana to eat together during the assembly. Similar events were held on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th March all over the country, as part of a national world record attempt to get the most people possible eating a Fairtrade banana within 24 hours. Over 390,000 people registered nationally to take part in the event. At Whitehall the assembly was used to raise awareness of Fairtrade issues, and the children also ran a Fairtrade tuck shop. The banana skins did not go to waste: they were collected by the “Eco-Warriors” group to be composted by the school's Gardening Club. For more information on the event see www.fairtrade.org.uk/gobananas.
