VOLUNTEERS RUN COMMUNITY GROUP

Our Tenants' and Residents' Association (called Goodwood and Evington) is a community group and we are all volunteers. We get involved because we want to see improvements to council homes and local services and pass on accurate advice and information, as well as tell you your rights.

The strength of our organisation has to lie with your involvement. We need you. We have really interesting monthly meetings, which are always advertised in the Evington Echo.

We need more members to support us, attend our monthly meetings, put forward suggestions and help us get wider involvement. In the past we have had interesting presentations from guest speakers on the following topics: Waste recycling from Biffa, Star (a Government funded organisation that supports Tenants' and Residents' Associations), a Credit Union (a savings and loans co-operative) , Leicester City Council's maintenance and repair of property programme, Neil Rouse, Housing Manager, PRIDE (Protection and Reassurance Initiative to Defend the Elderly), Home Instead, an organisation that looks after elderly people with expertise in caring for people with dementia, Park Services, Highway Maintenance, the City Centre Development Project and the Police.

Besides the monthly meetings, TARA has a drop-in session every Wednesday from 12.30pm to 2.30pm in Evington House in the park. So far 961 people have passed through the office doors.

The present TARA committee actively supports the ‘Friends of Evington Park and Village Green' and has been involved with park activities for many years. A recent initiative has been our involvement with Judgemeadow's Mother and Toddler group (see article on page 8.)

Please give me a ring on 2736153 and help us strengthen our group.
