A NEW ORCHARD AT JUDGEMEADOW

Judgemeadow Community College were one of only 27 schools in Leicester to take part in this year's phase of the 10,000 trees initiative.

10,000 trees is an exciting project which has been organised between Leicester City Council and Groundworks over the next three years. As the project suggests it is about looking at areas across the City where trees can be planted between now and spring 2011.

As Judgemeadow is an EMAS school, we were invited to take part in this vital project and given the opportunity to develop our grounds further with many different species of tree for free. The school identified an area within the grounds to plant such species as Ash, Hazel, Walnut and many different varieties of fruit trees. The fruit from the trees will then be used alongside the allotment vegetables in our dining areas in the new school.

Students were involved in planting all the trees, 160 in total.
