THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS
25th – 31st July

Tessa Jowell, Minister for the Olympics, joined Special Olympics ambassador, Paul Nixon to visit New College to launch a Special Olympics GB Education Resource Pack. ‘SO Let's Learn' is a resource pack for teachers and is available to 500 schools and colleges across the city and county for the start of the Easter term 2009.

The pack contains a variety of lesson activities across all subjects for all ages and will promote the key values of the Special Olympics, which include fairness, tolerance, teamwork and respect. Tessa Jowell, Minister for the Olympics, said: “The Special Olympics is an inspirational event proving that anyone from any walk of life can get involved in sport. The Education Resource Pack will help spread the message of the Special Olympics to young people across Leicestershire giving them an insight into the positive role that sport can play in the lives of people with learning difficulties.”

Steve Walsh and many more are backing the Games. Special Olympics Great Britain is a charity that provides year-round sports training and competition to children and adults with learning disabilities. It offers the opportunity for those who participate to develop their physical fitness and motor skills, while achieving greater self-confidence and a more positive self-image.
