MICROCHIPPING FOR PETS

June is national microchipping month!

Microchips are a reliable and permanent form of identification for your pet. The microchip is contained in a capsule the size of a grain of rice and is injected under the skin between the shoulders. The chip is sterile and made of special materials so that it is not rejected by the body. The implanting procedure is quick and tolerated very well by most animals with minimal discomfort.

Once the microchip has been implanted, its unique number can be read using a special scanner. Then the national database can be used to match its unique number with the owner.

Microchipping can be done at your local veterinary practice or at some rescue centres. Once your pet is chipped and your details have been registered, do not forget to keep the database up to date with any changes of address or phone number!
