EVINGTON VILLAGE FETE AND SHOW 2008

The 2008 Fete (or ‘Fate'!) will be remembered for the rain which poured down for much of the afternoon, even so, most of the planned activities and entertainment continued regardless. The Lord Mayor, Councillor Manjula Sood, opened the event. The Seaforth Highland Pipe Band and Dancers performed in the rainy arena whilst the Leicester Barbershop Harmony Chorus entertained in the Village Hall where delicious refreshments (supported by Waitrose) were served. Later in the afternoon the Bouncy Castle and Mini-Fairground opened for our younger visitors. Fortunately the childrens' activities were undercover in a marquee so too were many stalls. St Denys Church was the place to be to try bell ringing and see various displays by members of the Church, plus art and quilling from Evington Park House. The Chapel hosted ‘The History of Evington' in photographs and a slide show of Old Leicester. The Show marquee celebrates the talented people who live in the Evington Area There were cakes, preserves, wines, floral arrangements, fruit, vegetables, handicrafts, photographs and paintings. I particularly wish to thank the hardworking Fete Committee and the staff of Evington Park who prepared the site and worked tirelessly in the rain to pack everything away afterwards.
John Sloan (Chairman, Evington Fete & Show Committee)
