ST PAUL'S CATHOLIC SCHOOL NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT Leicester Grammar Junior School has recently vacated their premises on Spencefield Lane to relocate to Great Glen. St Paul's Catholic School is keen to develop their existing site on Spencefield Lane by purchasing the premises formerly occupied by Leicester Grammar Junior. On Tuesday evening, 9 July, St Paul's Catholic School invited parents, children, teachers, governors, and the local community to view the plans and listen to a presentation of proposals for the development of the school site. Dr Francis Doherty, Head of St Paul's, and his team of dedicated staff, supported by the school governors, have worked hard to put together a sensible proposal that not only benefits the school but also the community. Approximately 150 people attended. It was an informative and well presented evening. For St Paul's to own the whole site will give the school much needed extra space, protect the land from residential development, and give the local community access to Historic Evington Hall. A proposal for a housing development comprising 24 dwellings would cause concern for the health and safety of the school and its pupils, and would compromise the efficiency, effectiveness and standards at St Paul's. St Paul's is one of Leicester City's flagship schools. A successful OFSTED inspection in February 2008 has re-designated the school as a Specialist School for the Performing Arts. In May 2008 the Department for Children Schools and Families awarded St Paul's High Performing Specialist School status. Take a look at the success of their examination results. This school's future deserves to be protected. How can the Evington community help? * Show your support by signing the on-line petition to Downing Street. See the school website to cast your vote: * Write to the local planning authority telling them why you object to the existing school premises being developed into a residential site. While you have pen to paper (or fingers on keyboard) write to your local councillor and MP urging them to support St Paul's. Act now! Please don't wait until it's too late.
