BON VOYAGE TO PETER AND MAUREEN AT THE DOVE

Peter and Maureen, tenants at The Dove, Downing Drive will be leaving on 14th October for a well-earned retirement. They will be heading for their house in the South West of France and a life exploring Europe in their caravan.

They came to The Dove in February 2006 and rapidly turned around its flagging fortunes. They have built up a great lunch and evening trade which is renowned this side of Leicester, the county and further afield. Customers' comments ranged from “excellent food at realistic prices”, “great Sunday lunches with superb puddings”, “what shall we do about our Sunday lunch now!”

Peter, originally from Chesterfield, and Maureen from Barnsley have had only a limited number of tenancies spanning their 30 years together. Prior to coming to The Dove they were managing a 21 bedroom hotel, restaurant and bars in Whitby. Maureen's mother's ill health and the fact they were on call 24/7 prompted their decision to sell and retire in 2005.

They were apprehensive about the move to The Dove, as they knew it was not attracting the custom it should, but they rose to the challenge and tried the technique they were familiar with, hard work and good food. They quickly built up a loyal and appreciative clientele. Many regular customers eat there 2 or 3 times a week. Peter is the chef and says the key to success is “home cooking, using fresh produce with quality.
