Many Leicester school children have been Bikeability trained, including children at Linden, Coleman, St Barnabas and other Evington primary schools. Lots of youngsters (and adults) have been along to Evington Park for free cycle sessions. And well done to all those who came to the free women-only sessions, many unable to ride their bikes at the start but now pedaling with confidence!

OK, so all you Evington cyclists – young and old - how about taking part in Leicester's Skyride? On 30 August many of Leicester's roads will be closed to all motorised traffic, and cyclists will take over the city. Qualified ride leaders will guide groups from various hubs into Leicester, and Evington Park is one of the hubs.

All you need is your bike and your zest to zoom into the city on two wheels (or however many wheels you have on your bike!). Wear whatever you like, so long as it's comfortable. If you fancy fancy-dress – then feel free! Bring snacks and drinks; waterproofs and/or sun-cream. You might want to bring a spare inner tube and a bike lock. And don't forget your camera. Remember you've got to lug your kit around with you, so travel light. Use a small rucksack for your clobber – one that's not big enough for the kitchen sink!

So come and cycle the ‘Tour de Leicester' - 6.5 km of traffic-free roads - and take in the Golden Mile, Belgrave Hall, Space Centre, Technology Museum and Abbey Park. You can join the tour at any of the Skyride hubs located at, Evington Park, Glen Parva (Dorothy Ave recreation ground), Braunstone Leisure Centre and Watermead Country Park.

The Leicester Skyride promises to be a day of fun and entertainment for all the family and it's free! On the day organisers will be handing out free Skyride high-visibility vests to all riders.
