EVINGTON VILLAGE FETE AND SHOW The Evington Fete and Show took place on the Village Green on Saturday 8th August – in glorious sunshine! The Seaforth Highlanders Pipes and Drums along with their dancers opened proceedings with some stirring Scottish marching music. The Deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Manjula Sood, MBE, accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Raj Kumari Bowry, officially opened the event. Our younger visitors were soon into the swing of things at the mini funfair. Punch and Judy attracted an enormous crowd of children squealing (with delight) and it was not long before painted faces were seen all around the green. Stilt walkers and a bubble maker from the Have-a-go Circus kept the entertainment going. The Heart of England Barbershop Chorus serenaded the crowd sitting around the arena including many residents of local care homes. In the Village Hall food was running out! (A quick visit to the local shops was made to re-stock.) St Denys Church and the Chapel both had many visitors interested in their displays. The show tent was once again filled with the most amazing handicrafts, works of art, photographs and floral art, together with a great collection of flowers, fruit and vegetables from mainly local people. One of the senior Show Judges commented to me that this show was as good as any that she had attended throughout the UK. Apologies to those people who were disappointed that there was no book stall. We were notified at short notice that the company concerned was not able to assist. There is not enough space to thank everyone involved, but special thanks must go the the staff of Evington Park, Hamilton Air Cadets, our local Councillors and Leicester City Council. The final thank you is to our brilliant hardworking committee and to those of you who helped us in any way. John Sloan, Chair of Changton Village Fete & Show Committee |
