The British Red Cross has recently launched a new service provision for the residents of Leicester City. This service is called First Call and aims to provide practical and emotional support with post hospital discharge, or assisting people to remain at home, stopping unnecessary hospital admissions.
Practical and emotional support at home will be offered for up to 12 weeks, free of charge. This support may be in the form of telephone calls, be-friending, companionship, help with practical tasks (such as shopping) and attending medical appointments. During and after this time, if further support is needed, then we will help to facilitate this by signposting to other organisations and assisting with access to other agencies.
The service is available to anyone.
Referrals can be accepted from:
> Family members
> Friends and neighbours
> Adult social care, hospitals and other health care and voluntary sector professionals
If making a referral on behalf of someone else please ensure that you have their permission to do so.
Volunteering for the British Red Cross is a great way to learn new skills and make a difference to people’s lives.
As a First Call volunteer, you will have the rewarding experience of helping people who need a little extra support at home to maintain their independence.
If you would like to become a volunteer or find out more about what is involved, or to make a referral to the service, please contact:
