CALLIGRAPHERS Members of the Leicestershire Calligraphers were on hand to demonstrate their skills and chat to visitors at an Open Afternoon held on Saturday 4th October at Evington Village Hall. Members' intricate work was on display, including a group alphabet project. The group project was designed by Kathy Sedar (accredited Calligraphy & Learning Arts Society tutor). Individuals picked a letter out of a hat, designed their letter, and the completed work was displayed in a montage of the alphabet. Kathy said, “This gives calligraphers of all abilities the opportunity to have their work displayed.” The 2009 group project is a tea-towel design based on the theme “Gardens”. Members' work will be collaged together and tea-towels printed and offered for sale. Calligraphy can be enjoyed by all ages. The best way to learn this absorbing artform is to join a class tutored by a member of the Leicestershire Calligraphers. For details of classes and venues, and further information please contact Judith Walmsley on Leicester 276 4409. Leicestershire Calligraphers hold their regularly monthly meetings at Evington Village Hall. The group meets on Saturday afternoons for workshops, demonstrations and talks. Sue Massey |
