JAZZ BEFORE BREAKFAST
Every Monday morning at 7.45am a group of dedicated and enthusiastic students arrive at Judgemeadow College . Out come guitars, double bass, saxophones and more add piano and voice - and a pre-breakfast jamming session is on the go. This is the Judgemeadow Jazz Club. Formed a year ago, the band's popularity has gone from strength to strength (fortified by the bacon sandwiches on offer at the end!) Why do they do it? The music's good. It gives you a chance to play together and to play in concerts. It's fun!
This is just one of many flourishing music groups that continue the long tradition of music at Judgemeadow. The Music staff are continually looking for new ways to tap into the wide spread of musical energy and expertise at the College even if it means arriving at 7.45am in the morning!
This is a special year for music at the college. With the move into the new college building scheduled for next summer the music staff have set their sights on a brand new piano to match the brand new hall. But good quality musical instruments are not cheap - which is where Friends of Judgemeadow Music come in. They are launching a campaign to raise an additional £10,000 to enable the purchase of a grand piano of good enough quality both to entice world-class recitalists to perform at the college, and to encourage musicians of all ages to achieve their best. If you have any ideas for fund-raising, or wish to join Friends of Judgemeadow Music, please contact Liz Farmilo on 221 4828 or email liz@farmilo.com Or just dig deep into your pockets to help Judgemeadow Music continue to develop the diverse musical abilities of all its students.
