SOME PARK EVENTS The latest ‘Murder in the Park' event was ably acted out by park staff and volunteers. Only one person guessed that the murderer was the vicar's wife! The era was 1940 and, whilst looking for clues, whodunnit seekers also experienced what it was like to be in an air raid shelter. In another room in Evington House, visitors were offered ‘wartime refreshments' and a wonderful display of vegetables and fruit.
There was an impressive exhibition of life in the land army during the war years. This was based on the experiences of Joan Poultney. Her memorabilia included photographs, clothing, ration books, badges, certificates. Joan put together a table of rationed foods; dried egg powder, tea, lard, butter, sweets, jam, bacon, soap and soap-powder to show a typical war time weekly allowance. |
