BORING ASSEMBLIES? NOT AT WHITEHALL

Who said school assemblies are boring? They certainly aren't here at Whitehall !

In September we had a special surprise visitor, none other than Filbert Fox himself! He had the little ones in stitches (well, us bigger kids too…) as he assisted Mr Bull with one of his entertaining assemblies. He was visiting with the youth coach from Leicester City Football Club to promote a training scheme run by the club for some of our junior pupils.

Later that month we had our Harvest Assembly. As usual pupils contributed food items to be given to The Centre Project; a charity on Charles Street that provides hot meals for the city's homeless and people on low incomes. This year there was a phenomenal donation of food, including two enormous marrows, courgettes, beans and onions grown by the school's Gardening Club.

October followed a more religious theme. Year 6's Eid assembly was very informative, telling of the significance of Eid and how Muslim families celebrate their special day.

Diwali was an extravagant affair. Year 2 and Year 4's production of the story of Rama and Sita would rival any Bollywood performance. Shah Rukh Khan and Shilpa Shetty had better watch out! We had lights, music, action, colourful costumes and Ravana with his 10 (cardboard) heads!

At least two assemblies a month are performed by a class of children so we always have something entertaining to look forward to.

We have been doing our usual fundraising too, raising over £600 on Jeans for Genes day and Children In Need, where pupils and staff alike came to school in fancy dress; we had pirates, princesses, monsters and even the Gruffalo!

Who said school was boring? Never!
