This is the first time Leicester has ever been recognised for Horticultural achievement in these national awards. Evington in Bloom was just one of 71 groups in Britain to reach the finals.
Britain in Bloom is one of the largest horticultural campaigns in Europe with over 1,600 participating groups. The groups are assessed on their achievements in horticultural excellence, environmental responsibility and community participation.
Helen Pettman (volunteer coordinator for Evington in Bloom) said, “our achievement was only possible because of our partnerships* and the commitment of the volunteers associated with the five Evington ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ groups.
Councillor Bajaj (Evington ward councillor) said “Evington is special because of the dedication of its residents. I am very proud of their achievements.”
