TWENTY ELM TREES IN THE PARK

On 5th December, 2008 (the final day for National Tree Planting week), Brian Stafford, LCC co-ordinator for the 10,000 Trees Project, organised a tree planting session in Evington Park .

Twenty elm trees were planted by the Council with support from local park users, the Friends of Evington Park and park staff.

The trees are called Ulmus ‘Clusius', a cultivar elm from Europe . They are fairly fast growing and good for avenue planting and they are also meant to have fairly good resistance to Dutch Elm Disease. As there aren't many elms left in Leicester 's parks, this is an attempt to reintroduce this species of tree.
