LOCAL 21-YEAR OLD WINS EDUCATION AWARD

A local lad has won a joint award for his exceptional achievements in education and the community.

Mohammed Qashif Anwar, 21, from Evington achieved 5 A Levels at Grade A and is currently in his third year at Leicester Medical School.
Qashif, who was born and raised in Leicester, has devoted many hours to voluntary work, including working as a care assistant for VISTA Society for the Blind and Oxfam. Six years ago he was nominated for the national ‘Millennium Volunteer of the Year’ award.
He is proud to represent the minority Muslim community as a Special Constable. He works at Downing Drive Surgery when he finds the time!

Qashif has been the British Medical Association (BMA) Student Representative for the University of Leicester since 2005. He is now Chair of the BMA’s Regional Services Liaison Group.

As a mentor for the Brightside Trust and Prepare-Med, Qashif offers advice to inspire students from disadvantaged backgrounds towards higher education.

His ongoing educational development includes completion of courses in Basic Food Hygiene, Stress Awareness and Sign Language to name but a few!

Qashif attended the first ever Federation of Muslim Organisations Youth awards in January 2008. The ceremony was also attended by civic dignitaries, members of faith and non-faith communities, the public and family members. The awards were launched to acknowledge the achievements of exceptional young people in Leicester.

His family are grateful to Whitehall Primary, The City of Leicester School, Beauchamp College and the Evington community, all of which have been influential in his development.
