SCOTT FEWSTER - HE DID IT!
On 30th September 2007, Scott Fewster, the Headteacher of Whitehall Primary School, successfully completed The Great North Run in Newcastle. This was a fantastic achievement considering that he had not run any distance before, let alone 13 miles! After months of gruelling training he completed the distance in 2 hours 57 minutes, finishing in the top 60% of the 50,000 runners (not bad for a first attempt!) He managed to raise over £700 for the Meningitis Trust, in memory of his son Lachlan whom he sadly lost to the disease aged just 2 years.
In addition to this fundraising, Scott has tirelessly campaigned for the availability of the Meningitis vaccine Prevenar, which, he believes, would have prevented this tragedy. This involved a major petition through Parliament which has resulted in the vaccine being routinely available for the last year.
