JOIN TCV AND EVINGTON IN BLOOM FOR A DAY ON THE ALLOTMENTS

Through a Friends of Evington application, Evington in Bloom were delighted to receive a £9,985 grant from the National Lottery (Awards for All).  The money will purchase a community cabin, a metal toolshed and professionally run gardening courses on the Rowlatts Hill Allotments, Blakenhall Road, off Coleman Road.

This community project is in partnership with The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) who rent the land from the Allotment Society.  These are first steps on a journey to provide a community facility that helps people get into growing their own food and reap the benefits from regular gardening activities.  Previously, Evington in Bloom received £1,000 funding  for a polytunnel for this project from Leicester City Council’s Food Plan fund.

Alex Hewins from TCV said “This project is really starting to take shape, thanks to Evington in Bloom’s hard work and dedication we are able to offer the local community training and support to get growing!”allotment-frameweb

On Friday 13th January and Friday 20th January, we are taking the first steps to getting the site prepared with two workdays from 10am to 3.30pm.  If you enjoy environmental projects and can help with this please contact Alex Hewins  on 0116 2710178.

Drinks will be provided, but please bring your own lunch if you are able to stay all day.

Happy new year

Alex.
