ORDINARY PEOPLE – AMAZING THINGS This is Leicester Charnwood Lions Club's motto and their latest fundraising idea is certainly amazing. They have formed a link with a society in Amritsar , India called ‘Punarjyot'. ‘Punarjyot' is a voluntary, non-profit, non- political organisation that promotes health care and education in rural communities. It campaigns against female foeticide and promotes drug addiction awareness programmes, among other things. The immediate focus for the Lions working with ‘Punarjyot' is to sponsor two eye camps in Amristar, in the Punjab - Narli village and Chandigarth. Eye operations will be no injection, no stitch and no pad cataract surgery and will benefit underprivileged people. The Charnwood Lions have embraced the philosophy that contribution to the needy and downtrodden should be at the heart of every individual and community. For more information or to support this worthwhile cause, tel. 2742920 or email satnam@hicare.co.uk Mrs. Manveen Sandhu, Co-Director of ‘Punarjyot' and a leading educationalist is shaking hands with Mr. Malachy McDonagh, Lions Club President. Dr. Shivinder Singh Sandhu (on the right) is the other Co-Director of ‘Punarjyot' and also an orthopaedic surgeon. |
