£50,000 Promise for Playing in the Park Leicester City Council has been awarded a £300,000 grant to improve six play areas in the City. Evington Park will be first and the whole project needs to be finished by March '09. Councillor Andy Connolly (Cabinet Lead for Culture and Sport) and Councillor Vi Dempster (Cabinet lead for Children and Young People's Services) visited the Park to talk about the project with one of our local councillors and some ‘Friends of Evington Park and Village Green'. Andy Connolly said, “Our play strategy aims to create natural environments where children can enjoy being with their friends and be involved in a wide range of play experiences. The reason why Evington Park will be renovated first is because their ‘Friends Of' group have already undertaken consultations about some of the play facilities local adults and children might like to see.” Both our local councillors, Michael Johnson and Deepak Bajaj are fully supporting this project. Play Officer Adrian Edge will liaise closely with ‘The Friends Of' who have already started consultations with 8 – 13 year olds in six local schools.
