RATS
They fought the dogs and killed the cats,
And bit the babies in the cradles,
And ate the cheeses out of the vats,
And licked the soup from the cooks' own ladles,
Split open the kegs of salted sprats,
Made nests inside men's Sunday hats,
And even spoiled the women's chats
By drowning their speaking
With shrieking and squeaking
In fifty different sharps and flats.

The City Council's Environment Services Newsletter revealed that while Evington Ward has fewer problems with pests like mice and cockroaches compared with other city wards, the number of rat sightings is higher (61 from January to June compared with 48.1 as a citywide average.) The council says it is not really a rat problem, but just an interesting statistic which could be to do with the fact that Evington has more open space than other wards. 42 of the 61 sightings were outdoors.
