DO YOU LIKE TO SING AND ACT?

The Leicester Gilbert and Sullivan Operatic Society would welcome members. The group rehearses at St Philip's Church, Evington Road , on Wednesday evenings from 7.30pm onwards. In the Spring they will perform ‘Princess Ida' at the Little Theatre. They also undertake between two and four concerts during the year.

Alex Skerritt (18) has just joined the group. He told the Echo, “I found out about this society from the internet, and as I like both singing and acting I decided this was for me. Everyone made me feel very welcome and I was pleased to see such a good mixture of younger and older people.”

The Society started in 1946 in order to raise money for a Community Centre in Blaby. Having achieved this objective, the company was too good to close, so it reformed, moved and continued. It has only ever missed one year's performance at the Little Theatre when the Theatre burnt down. The facilities at St. Philip's are excellent.
